5 Questions you need to ask before doing any Technology Upgrade

As human beings, we like to resolve problems. The faster the better. Oftentimes, we evaluate a circumstance based on our own personal perspective of the world. With this information hardwired into our brains, we tend to identify what we believe is the right solution to the problem at hand. The issue with this, however, is that we as humans are all different and as a result, we find ourselves coming up with different possible solutions to the same problem.
With problem solving, we have a tendency to focus in on the details of the situation at hand, which is necessary in order to actually solve the problem. However, the issue then becomes that we immediately begin focusing on the differences between all of our potential solutions, and not the potential outcomes. Sequentially, this breeds conflict.

In order to engage and align a team, whether that be board and management, vendor and purchaser, alliance partners, functions, etc, the first step is to look at the overall big picture. Identify what "it" is that we are trying to accomplish and work from there. Giving your team that external focus on the bigger picture and having them envision what the big picture looks like when it's working well, helps get the wheels in everyone's heads turning.

This maneuver is best done with the use of outcome specifics, as well as commitment from everyone on the team. Once you get everyone on board with the goal at hand and you start to see the heads shaking "yes", then your plan for directional alignment is on the right track. After the egos have left the room and there's no longer that baggage of "I'm right, you're wrong", you and your team are ready to objectively evaluate potential solutions. You have opened their mindset.
Overall, gaining directional alignment of the individuals who are engaged in bettering the business is the quickest way to unlock problem solving and create new opportunities. When everyone is on the same page and going for the same results, that type of unification aids in a collaborative effort to find the best solution, or best return. As a result, your team works through these problems in the least amount of time with the best resource utilization, making it optimal for businesses aiming to gain directional alignment as well as solution ownership.
